Dear St. Monica Academy Families,
I hope this message finds you well.
Last week, our student council put together a remarkable student assembly in which they brought together the whole of our student body Pre-K through 8th grade. This allowed the students to engage in meaningful prayer, class competitions, and an overall sense of school unity. I would like to personally thank Ms. Mellado and the Student Council or their efforts last Friday.
During this assembly we announced our Mustangs of the Month for September 2023. The students and teacher nominated by our faculty and staff epitomize our core values of living the Gospel/being Gospel driven, attempting to be excellent always and everywhere, and demonstrating unity within their classrooms and school. Our winners were:
Congratulations to all of our Mustangs of the Month for the month of September!
In other impressive news, Student Council raised $445 by selling $2 dress down day passes to our student body for Cal’s Angels whose mission statement describes itself as a nonprofit that grants wishes, raises awareness, and funds research to help kids fighting cancer. Great job by the Student Council and our community.
Several activities that were commonplace at St. Monica in the past have restarted with earnest. The first is Mrs. Dalin’s drama program that started several weeks ago and is filled to capacity. I look forward to their performance in the coming months. Our monthly school newspaper, The Informer, is back. Our team of 13 students, under the mentorship of Ms. Mellado and Mrs. Petracco, released the September 2023 edition just over a week ago. If you would like a copy, they are available in the school.
This week your student will be receiving solar eclipse and sun viewing glasses to view the solar eclipse that will occur on Saturday, October 14th. As soon as they are delivered, your students will come home armed with these glasses as well as some interesting eclipse knowledge, please help them use the glasses appropriately.
Information was sent home about the absentee and retake picture day that will occur on Friday, October 20th. If you missed these fliers, please ask your student to come to the office and receive another copy.
As the weather begins to change, please be sure your student has appropriate outerwear for recess and school travel.
Please visit the St. Monica Academy website to sign up for volunteer opportunities and to read about the importance of our fundraising efforts.
Congratulations to any members of our school community that participated in the Chicago Marathon. Please share your names with me so we can highlight you in an upcoming newsletter.
So many great things on the horizon Mustangs! Let’s keep it up!
Go Mustangs!
