A few days ago, I let you know that we had about 10% of our students absent with RSV and Influenza. In the last few days our numbers have increased slightly. Today one of our families shared that they went to Lutheran General Hospital for treatment to find the waiting room overflowing and patients being seen in hallways. Other families in the waiting room shared that they had been waiting twelve or more hours without being seen. Our SMA family eventually had to give up and left without complete treatment for their child. This is serious. RSV is especially dangerous to the very young and very old. Influenza causes between 15,000-61,000 deaths each year. We are continuously cleaning the school and doing deep cleans each night. Please remember that COVID 19 is not the only virus that can and will cause serious illness and even hospitalization. We know the best place for our students to be on school days is in the classroom and we never want a student to stay home without real cause, but if your child is showing symptoms of cough, congestion, fever (temperature over 100.4), lethargy, irritability, body aches, or diarrhea please keep them home and consider seeing your doctor. Students should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without the aid of medication and the rest of their symptoms have mostly resolved. We have a lot of special activities happening in the next few days. Please see all the information below so you can participate!
