Dear St. Monica Academy Families,
As you know may know, the school’s chiller for the air conditioning system failed last April. It was eighteen-years-old and determined not repairable. We were able to manage the hot weather through September by applying portable AC units in some classrooms.
We have been working to develop options to restore the central air conditioning in the school, utilizing resources from the Archdiocese of Chicago to assist us. Multiple companies submitted proposals, which ranged in cost from $122,000 to $150,000. The parish has identified and allocated approximately $93,000 in funding from bequests, large individual donations/memorials, and the Boosterthon fundraiser.
Fr. Greg Lorens, along with the parish Finance Council, have agreed to use these funds to support this project. The balance of the funds for this project will either be provided through a capital loan from the Archdiocese and/or from a reallocation of funds raised through our “To Teach Who Christ Is” (TTWCI) campaign. These amounts are yet to be decided and will be shared with the parish Finance Council prior to taking any action in this regard. It will also be communicated to the parish and school communities once a decision is made, should it impact intended TTWCI projects.
As it currently stands, we are planning to have central air conditioning installed in the school for the start of the 2019-2020 school year in August. We appreciate your support and understanding (and donations) as we continue to work through this situation.
Sincerely,
Ray Coleman, Principal
